Home is where art is... nothing
describes better the home of a South Delhi architect and artist
duo
As one enters
Neb Sarai, one wonders about the famed house. One could be
forgiven for being snobbish and doubting whether a house this
magnifique exists here. But exist it does and in style!

The first feel,
of course, is that art is rampant in this house. 'A work of
love' Anshu calls it. And indeed it is! Architect Pradeep and
artist Anshu Pathak's home 'Saubhagya' has been named it
seems. Mentioned in innumerable magazines for its breathtaking
interiors, this house stands tall in Neb Sarai in South Delhi.
But surely, what else can you expect when art and architecture
blend in perfectly. The result is bound to be phenomenal. And,
in this case it is reflected in the mesmerizing interiors of
Saubhagya. Walls adorned with exquisite mirror and sequin work
paintings, doors with painted glass, the ethnic decorations
and most of all the colors simply take your breath away. |
Decorated in
vibrant hues, the house gives one that ethnic and traditional
feel. "The theme was always going to be ethnic." informs Anshu. "I
love the traditional mirror work done in Rajasthan and Gujrat, and
I have used a lot of it in my home." she adds. To begin with,
Anshu herself made rough sketch of what she wanted and then
Pradeep gave it the final touches. Believe it or not, but starting
from the cushion covers to the drapes to the duvets, all were
stitched by Anshu herself. The eye-catching painting of a peacock
done by her in mirrors and oil is an amazing piece d'art. Black
and white pencil sketches of gods and goddesses proudly adorn the
living room walls. "This was always going to be my house." states
Anshu, the pride evident in her voice. "So, I did everything with own hands." she adds. It
took almost two years to get all the artifacts from various
places here and abroad and set up the house.
Apart from
their own home they have designed numerous other houses till now,
most of them a work of art. A farmhouse they had done in Bhati,
earned Pradeep a nomination for the Designer of the Year award.
They, of course, make a perfect team. Pradeep visualizes the
exteriors while Anshu does the interiors of the house.
She first tried
her hands at interiors while doing her first house. From then on
she never looked back and neither did Pradeep who states, "It is
simply great working together, There is also no conflict
professionally because she visualizes the interiors exactly as I want them."
Pradeep and
Anshu are busy today with lots of other projects. The chemistry
between them is still strong and is visible in the way they
complete each other's sentences. No two people have had it made
better. Any wonder then that they have given art a new dimension.
